In recent years, many companies that deploy PCs have had to reassess the way they manage their device fleets in response to two challenges: the enormous growth in the number of remote employees that need support, and the growing number of security threats that can put their enterprises at risk. For decision makers who are considering a PC fleet refresh while keeping those challenges in mind, the ultimate buying decision may hinge on variables beyond traditional factors such as device performance, purchase price, and ongoing maintenance costs. We researched publicly available marketing claims and documentation to find out the extent to which three Windows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)—Dell, HP, and Lenovo—supported 10 specific PC security and system management features. The features we researched included OEM support for monitoring solutions, BIOS security and protection features, Microsoft Intune management integrations, and remote management capabilities.
In our research, Dell supported nine of the ten PC security and system management features we investigated, HP supported six of them, and Lenovo supported three out of the ten features. For companies that want to be well-positioned to meet the growing demands of a remote workforce while feeling confident that their security infrastructure can handle diverse threats, Dell PCs may be a great option for their next fleet deployment.
